RACE 1.40 now comes in registered and unregistered form.
Upon registration you will receive a keycode which will
unlock a few extra features. These registered only features
are indicated below by (+) instead of * next to the item.
If you are a RACE v1.30 user, you will find everything you
used in v1.30 is still available in v1.40 even if you have not
registered. Even in unregistered form, v1.40 has a number of
new items available to you.
New features in RACE v1.40
--------------------------
* Built in support for an external message editor (supplied).
ALT-E pops up the editor and allows you to write a message to
the user currently on the main screen.
(+) ALT-E within <V>alidation will allow you to write a message
to the user currently being validated.
* Updated RACE to RA's message base locking standards. A message
may be posted to a user even if a user is online. This is used
both in RACEEDIT and the welcome message feature of validation.
(+) Password protection of the <J>ump and <U>tils commands to restrict
use of RACE via DoorWay. Without the password (if enabled), the
RACE user cannot jump to dos or execute any programs from the
<U>til menu. Good for keeping remote co-sysops out of DOS.
* Pop up pick window during validation allows selection of a
different answer file.
* <F>ind Answers in validation will now scan the answer file for
additional answer sets from the current user. Note that the
<S>ave command still works on each individual set of answers.
(+) ALT-L pops up a window in which your "Today's callers" (contents
of Lastcall.bbs) are displayed. You may then scroll around the
list and select a user. RACE will then take you to that user
record.
(+) ALT-U works like ALT-L except that USERON.BBS is listed. This tells
you which users (if any) are online at the time. Like ALT-L, you may
select a user and be taken directly to that user's record.
* ALT-M 'mode' switch command. If you have an EGA/VGA system, this
will switch RACE from 25 line mode to 43/50 line mode or vice versa.
RACE no longer forces 25 line mode on startup. RACE will take
advantage of the full 43/50 lines for on screen reports or during a
<R>eports => <U>ser list.
* Group number has been added as a parameter for packing the user file.
Group number has also been added to the display of users that are
deleted during a pack.
* Context sensitive help has been added to the Pack menu options.
Fixes and improvements
----------------------
* Changed searching by splitting "Name" and "Alias" search into
two separate search items instead of forcing a search of both
USERS.BBS and USERSXI.BBS when you only need to search for a
real name. This speeds up the "Name" search considerably.
* RACECFG now has a reminder on the main screen on how to save
changes after editing a field.
* <A>dd new user did not save any extended information if this
info was edited during the <A>dd. This includes all items
that are contained in USERSXI.BBS (handle, birthdate, first call,
etc.).
* <A>dd new user and <W>hoops! have been updated to RA 1.01 standards.
What that means is that the user real name will be inserted into the
alias field if: You are <A>dding the user and you do NOT manually
enter a handle or when your restore a user with the <W>hoops! function.
* An invalid USERON.BBS caused RACE 1.30 to end with a runtime error.
RACE 1.40 now ignores an invalid USERON.BBS.
* Any messages imported into the RA message base by RACE now have the
LOCAL bit set. It has been reported that lack of this bit caused
some message base utils (names unknown) to delete the RACE generated
message during message base maintenance.
* Both sort and pack did not operate properly if RA was active (no
users logged on) in another partition. Sort/Pack was NOT designed
to be used when RA was active. If you use either function now,
they will perform the desired task but will NOT update the files.
What this means is that you will have to manually copy the resulting
*.NEW user files over the *.BBS user files.
* "Searching" was not displayed during <V>alidation (as opposed to
Ctrl-V type validation) while RACE was trying to find the current
user's answers.
* Error handling has been improved throughout RACE.
* Numerous cosmetic changes.
